How the TCE ATAR is calculated (Tasmania)

Your TE Score is the aggregate the University of Tasmania builds from your best five Level 3 or Level 4 courses - each worth 15 credit points, so 75 credit points in total - drawn from two senior-secondary years, with at least three completed in your final year. University Connections Program (UCP) and High Achiever Program (HAP) units count too, scaled the same way as TASC Level 3/4 courses.

Each course is scaled by TASC before it counts, so a course score reflects how you performed relative to the whole course cohort, not just your raw result.

The University of Tasmania ranks every student by TE Score and converts it to an ATAR - a percentile rank between 0 and 99.95 that shows where you sit relative to your age group (all students of Year 12 age, not just those who finish Year 12). Because it is a rank, it depends on how the whole cohort performs, not a fixed score-to-ATAR table.

Scaling lets scores from different courses be compared fairly. TASC publishes annual course-scaling data - the finalised score range for each award in every Level 3/4 course, with the number of students in each range (it publishes score ranges and counts, not a per-mark conversion table).

That data is descriptive of how a course scaled in a given year - it can't be used to predict your own scaled score in advance.

There is no English-subject rule built into the ATAR aggregate itself in Tasmania (unlike the HSC in NSW). A literacy standard applies at the TCElevel, and individual UTAS degrees can set their own English prerequisites - but the best-five-courses ATAR calculation does not force English into your aggregate.
