VCE Biology Past Exams (Science)
VCE Biology is examined in a single 2.5-hour end-of-year exam set and marked by the VCAA, covering the Units 3–4 content on how organisms regulate their functions and how life changes and responds to challenges over time.
Note the timing: the current Biology study design's final examined year is 2026 - a new design is first examined in 2027 - so past papers are a perfect match for the 2026 exam and should be checked against the new design from 2027.
Check the study design. A new Biology study design is first examined in the 2027 VCE exam. Past exams from 2026 and earlier are on the previous study design - still useful for exam technique, but confirm the content against the current study design. Papers from 2027 onward match the new design.

VCAA publishes the past VCE exams and the examination reports for Biology on its own site. They are the real exam questions - sit them under timed conditions, then read the report for what examiners looked for.
What's on the Biology exam?
The paper combines multiple-choice with short-answer and extended-response questions, and rewards interpreting experimental data, applying concepts to unfamiliar scenarios and structuring evaluative responses.
Timed past-paper practice, marked against the VCAA report, is the best way to rehearse the data-analysis and extended-response questions.
How to use the past exams
Sit each Biology exam in one timed session (VCAA papers include a 15-minute reading period), then mark it against the External Assessment Report for that year - VCAA's report is the examiners' commentary, with sample answers and the mistakes the state cohort repeated.
