QCE Modern History Past Papers (Humanities and Social Sciences)
QCE Modern History external assessment is a single exam worth 25% of your final result — an extended response that asks you to analyse and evaluate historical sources under timed conditions.
QCAA introduced external assessment with the current QCE system in 2020, so there are only a handful of past papers per subject — which makes each one worth sitting properly under timed conditions.

QCAA publishes the past external assessment papers, marking guides and subject reports for Modern History in the Resources → Past papers section of its official syllabus page. They are the exam questions themselves — sit them under timed conditions.
What's on the Modern History exam?
The EA presents a set of sources on a topic from Unit 4 and asks you to construct an evidence-based argument — using, corroborating and evaluating the sources rather than just narrating events. It rewards a clear thesis, close use of the provided evidence, and judgement about reliability and perspective.
At 25% of your result, the exam supports rather than dominates your three internal assessments, but a strong source-analysis technique carries across all of them.

Practise the source booklet to time, then mark against the QCAA marking guide to see how the assessment objectives — devising, analysing, evaluating — are actually credited. The subject report each year shows the difference between a mid-range and a top response on the same sources.
