What ATAR Do You Need for Uni in Queensland? (2026)

In Queensland, QTAC publishes each course’s lowest, median and highest ATAR and selection rank — with and without adjustment factors — from last year’s offers. The “lowest” isn’t a minimum you must hit: it’s the lowest rank that received an offer, and adjustments can lift your rank above your ATAR. Some universities also set a forward guaranteed ATAR.

The QTAC profile — with and without adjustments

QTAC lists, per course, the lowest / median / highest for both your raw ATAR and your selection rank (ATAR plus adjustment factors). Comparing the two shows how much adjustments moved the offers. The median is the most honest guide to what you realistically need.

Guaranteed ATAR — a real forward promise (per program)

UQ, QUT and Griffith publish guaranteed ATARs for many programs: meet the stated ATAR plus any prerequisites and you’re guaranteed an offer. But it’s per program — for example UQ guarantees a 99.00 ATAR for Dental Science, while competitive programs like medicine are excluded. Always check the specific program’s page.

Queensland’s ATAR is new

Queensland only switched from the OP to the ATAR in 2020, so there are just a few years of comparable data. Ignore any OP-era numbers (the OP ran 1992–2019 on a different, inverted 1–25 scale) — they don’t translate to an ATAR.

Frequently asked questions

Read this before you rely on any “cutoff”. A course’s “ATAR cutoff” is really the lowest selection rank — your ATAR plus any adjustment factors — that received an offer last year. It is not a minimum ATAR and not a guarantee: students whose ATAR is below it can still get offers once adjustment factors lift their selection rank to it, and competitive courses (medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, veterinary science) also use admissions tests, interviews and subject prerequisites. Figures change every year. Always confirm on the official QTAC page and with the university before deciding. Polarbear is not affiliated with QTAC or any university.
